DING 2021: “Born at Wytham-on-the-Hill, Lin., he studied at Christ's College, Cambridge. He obtained his B.A. degree in 1850, and he won a Travelling Bachelor scholarship. In 1853 he graduated M.A. He was then curate of Lechlade, Glo., until 1859 when he became perpetual curate of Brockham, Sur. At the same time he was taking care of the parishes of Shiplake, Oxf. and Wargrave, Brks. In 1868 he became first Vicar of Brockham and remained there until his retiremente to Reading in 1892. His Proverbial Folklore is among EDD's General Dialect primary sources."
