DING 2021: "Antiquarian and dialectologist, born at St. Marylebone, London, the fifth son of diplomatist Sir Woodbine Parish.  He attended Charterhouse School, Godalming, Sur.. He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford, in 1858. He was curate of Firle, Sus., and, since 1865, vicar of Selmeston with Alciston, Sus. Between 1877 and 1900 he was also Chancellor of Chichester Cathedral. He was a frequent contibutor to Notes and Queries on matters relating to the dialects of Sussex, Surrey and Kent. According to Roper 2018 he also penned a letter in the Sussex dialect under the pseudonym John Hogpound, q.v. Together with William Francis Shaw he also compiled a dictionary of the dialect of Kent."
