WORCESTERSHIRE

DING 2021: "Historian born in Faversham, Knt,  where his father, Rev. Samson Kingsford, was headmaster of the Grammar School. He studied at Worcester College, Ox. and graduated B.A. in 1855 and M.A. in 1859. For the next 8 years he was a curate at different parishes (Chillingworth, Som.; Hentland, Her.; Chalfont, St. Peter, Bck., Chalford, Glo., Minting, Lin., Dulverton, Som. and Chartham, Knt.).  He settled as Vicar  of Stoulton, Wor., in 1867. He was to remain there until his retirement in 1913.  He was the Honorary Secretary of the Worcester Diocesan Architectural and Archaeological Society between 1892 and 1902. He published papers on Worcestershire, and Stoulton. Under the pseudonym "Outis" he wrote a series of short stories in the Wo. dialect which appeared periodically in a local newspaper in 1895 and 1896. The following year he gathered them, with minor corrections, in book form. He also wrote some Letters to the Editor of the Berrow's Worcester Journal in which he explained some of the conventions he had followed in his short stories in his attempt to represent the Wor. dialect. He was a frequent contributor to The English Dialect Dictionary and as such is recognized by Joseph Wright in the Preface. (I:viii)  ."
