DING 2022: “Born in Bristol, he attended schools in Dorset, at Lytchett-Matravers, Wimborne and Poole. He then continued his education at Ratcliff Cross, Lon. He graduated BA from Oxford University in 1697. For the next fifteen years he was a curate in different Kentish parishes. In 1712 he began his MA at Cambridge University. He was later appointed Vicar of Minster, Knt., where he would remain until his death. He was a prolific writer of books and tracts on religion, biographies,  and historical studies of different parts of Kent. In the second edition of his History and Antiquities...of the Isle of Tenet (1736) he included a glossary of the Kentish dialect. This would be edited and reprinted by Walter W. Skeat for the English Dialect Society in 1874. Skeat not only corrected wrong etymologies but also clarified meanings and ammended the sometimes misleading punctuation. He also added some other Kenticisms in the book not included in the glossary. W. D. Parish and W. F. Shaw fully mined the whole book for their Dictionary of the Kentish Dialect (1887)."
